July 3, 2021 UPDATE – New world record for brown trout
The IGFA confirmed a new world record for brown trout.
Captured last fall (2020) by a man known only as “Seamus Turganist”. The fish weighs a whopping 44.3 pounds!
The record trout was caught in New Zealand, from the same body of water where the world record fish was caught in 2013.
Apparently a lot of big trout come out of those New Zealand canals.
The previous world record was confirmed in New Zealand
A 42-pound, 1-ounce brown trout caught in March 2013 was confirmed a few days ago as the all-gear world record.

State record for brown trout in Michigan through September 9, 2009
Tom Healy with the previous world record brown trout from the Manistee River in Michigan
weighed 36.81 pounds and was caught in Lake Michigan in Benzie County in 2007.
In 2009, an angler on the Manistee River caught a Brown larger than any recorded in history, weighing 41.7 pounds!
Tom Healy of Rockford, Michigan accomplished this and broke the previous world record of forty pounds, four ounces caught in Arkansas.
Before that, the record was also held by an Arkansas trout weighing 38-9#.
Manistee County has fabulous fishing in this area.
The Manistee River is a tributary of Lake Michigan and offers great opportunities for anglers year after year.

On Saturday, May 9, 1992, around 11 a.m., 64-year-old Rip Collins was fishing in a boat on the Little Red River with a friend.
Using a maribou jig and 4 pound test line he caught this big female brook trout.
A 40lb 4oz specimen.

No one is sure if he is going to enter it into the IGFA (International Game Fish Association) (there are several conflicting reports in the media)
Some media stories reported that the fish weighed 45 pounds.
