“The Heaviest Chords: Inverted Power Chords

Here’s a great sound that will make your powerchord riffs sound heavier than you ever imagined!

This is one of my favorite guitar hacks, I’m so excited to share it with you!

Inverted C Power Chord

Here is an inverted C Power Chord tab.

Let me give you an overview of how inversions work and how it relates to power chords.

Chords have 3 notes, right?

The most common chords played on the piano are Roots, 3rds and 5ths.

The lowest level in a chord is the most important, so it is almost always the Root.

That’s the standard pitch, but you can play those notes in any order – if you play Root, 5, 3 that’s a spread pitch.

But, if you want to put the 3rd or 5th as the lowest note in the chord we call that inversion.

If you’re playing some kind of 7th chord, you can put it in the bass as well:

So how does this apply to our inverted power chords?

Power Chords have 2 notes: Root and 5, so the common language of “1st Inversion”, etc., is not used.
