How does a battery convert chemical energy into electrical energy?

A battery is a scientific invention that helps other technologies run.

When we use an electrical device, the battery converts chemical energy into electrical energy through a chemical reaction that takes place inside the battery.

On the other hand, when you recharge the battery, the conversion takes place.

Each battery consists of two electrodes (Anode and Cathode) and an electrolyte.

Oxidation reactions occur at the Anode, which means when you complete the cycle, the Anode will release electrons.

In contrast, the reduction reaction occurs at the Cathode, where it absorbs the electrons released by the Anode.

At the same time, positive ions flow from the Cathode to the Anode through the electrolyte, completing the cycle.

This chemical reaction produces an electrical difference between the Anode and the Cathode which causes electrons to flow from the Anode to the Cathode, generating electricity in the external circuit.

When the reagents run out, the battery cannot produce electricity and needs a charger.

In rechargeable batteries, an external current recharges the battery by replenishing the materials in the Anode and Cathode.

If your voltmeter has alternating voltage switches, set it to 12 volts, then attach the clips to the corresponding terminals on the battery.

Use the probe to touch the corresponding terminal of the battery, using the negative probe to the negative terminal first, then the positive probe to the positive terminal.

Observe the reading of one of the devices (voltmeter or multimeter); if the reading is at least 12.6 volts, it is fully charged.

Anything below 12.6 volts indicates you need to charge the battery.

If it’s charged and still doesn’t charge, the battery is old or damaged, and you probably need to replace it.
