One thing I always think is effective is showing guys the height and weight of the players and their position in the NFL.
It has helped many athletes gain the extra motivation needed to gain weight when they can compare themselves to guys at the next level.
(Sometimes it’s even a hard fact check, say, the defensive ends who think 210 pounds is “enough” to play in the NFL.)
I took 53 active people for the 2022 season (a little before the last week of the season – Jan 2023), almost 1700 players are breaking them into position.
For this guide, I took the average of the height and weight of the 84 active players across the league.
Additionally, just for fun, I listed the tallest, shortest, heaviest and lightest.
Average Height of an NFL Quarterback
The average height of an NFL Quarterback is 74.56 inches or about 6’2 1/2.
Average Weight of an NFL Quarterback
The average weight of an NFL Quarterback is 219.8 pounds.
Who Are the Tallest Quarterbacks in the NFL?
Here are the five tallest running backs in the NFL in 2023, listed at 6’6″ tall.
Joe Flacco – Jets
Nick Foles – Colts
Who Are the Shortest Quarterbacks in the NFL?
It’s really hard to play quarterback in the NFL if you’re under 6 feet tall.
Only two running backs in 2023 fit this category, and they are listed at 5’11”.
Who Are the Toughest Quarterbacks in the NFL?
It may not be a big surprise that the two heaviest places are also two of the tallest.
Joe Flacco – 245 pounds – Jets
Nick Foles – 243 pounds – Colts
Dak Prescott – 238 pounds – Cowboys
Josh Allen – 237 pounds – Fee
Carson Wentz – 237 pounds – Chiefs
Who are the easiest quarterbacks in the NFL?
Not one quarterback in the NFL in 2023 is listed at under 200 pounds.
This is the easiest five.
John Woolford – 200 pounds – Rams
Logan Woodside – 201 pounds – Falcons
Meet McSorley – 202 pounds – Cardinals
Brett Rypien – 202 pounds – Broncos
Tyler Huntley – 204 pounds – Ravens
Final Thoughts
Although many of us tend to think of all NFL players as 6’4″ (or taller), that’s not true.
Only 24 of 84 (28.6%) quarterbacks in 2023 were listed at 6’4″ or taller.
And although not many people would argue that being tall really helps in this situation, there are many guys around 6 feet tall who are currently playing at the highest level.
