One thing I felt was always effective was showing the guys the height and weight of the players at the NFL position.
It helped give many players the extra motivation needed to gain weight when they could compare themselves to the boys at the next level.
(It was also a harsh reality check for defensive tackles who sometimes thought 210 pounds was “enough” to play in the NFL).
I took the 53 man active roster for the 2022 season (before the last week of the season – January 2023), totaled almost 1700 players and divided them by position.
For this guide, I averaged the heights and weights of 84 active quarterbacks across the league.
Also, just for fun, I listed the tallest, shortest, heaviest, and lightest quarters.
Average Height of an NFL Quarterback
The average height of an NFL Quarterback is 74.56 inches or approximately 6’2 1/2.
Average Weight of an NFL Quarterback
The average weight of an NFL Quarterback is 219.8 pounds.
Who are the tallest quarterbacks in the NFL?
Here are the five tallest quarterbacks in the NFL in 2023, all listed at 6’6″.
Joe Flacco – Jets
Nick Foles – Colts
Who are the Shortest Quarterbacks in the NFL?
It’s very difficult to play quarterback in the NFL if you’re under 6 feet.
Only two quarterbacks entered this category in 2023, both 5’11”.
Who Are the Heaviest Quarterbacks in the NFL?
It’s probably no surprise that the two heaviest quarterbacks are also two of the tallest.
Joe Flacco – 245 pounds – Jets
Nick Foles – 243 pounds – Colts
Dak Prescott – 238 pounds – Cowboys
Josh Allen – 237 pounds – Bills
Carson Wentz – 237 pounds – Commanders
Who Are the Lightest Quarterbacks in the NFL?
Not a single NFL quarterback in 2023 is listed under 200 pounds.
John Woolford – 200 pounds – Ram
Logan Woodside – 201 pounds – Falcons
Trace McSorley – 202 pounds – Cardinals
Brett Rypien – 202 pounds – Broncos
Tyler Huntley – 204 pounds – Ravens
Final Thoughts
While many of us usually imagine that all NFL quarterbacks are 6’4″ (or taller), that is not the case.
Only 24 of the 84 (28.6%) active quarterbacks in 2023 were listed at 6’4″ or taller.
And while not many would argue that being taller is definitely helpful in this position, there are a lot of 6-foot-6 guys playing at the highest level today.

Other positions
I have also made the same distribution of height and weight for other positions, among others:
