The Heaviest Weight Lifted in History – June 12th

If you know a thing or two about helicopters, you probably know that they are among the most reliable types of aircraft

They can be used by organizations, hospitals, media stations, police, the navy, the military and other government organizations for various purposes, mainly to transport people, troops and cargo Table of Contents1

Heavy-lift helicopters are designed with impressive capabilities to carry more than 50 tons and put materials where they need to go faster, especially in remote areas

Some heavy lift helicopters have been a first choice for businesses, civilians and military departments that need to move heavy loads from one location to another

Since their implementation in the 1940s, helicopters have done a great job moving large cargo loads, evacuating troops and other life-saving activities

If you’re curious about some of the world’s best heavy-lift helicopters in the world, this post is for you

Here are the top heavy lifters of all time by how much weight they can lift

Editorial Team Russian Mil Mi-26 airlift an aircraft

The MI-26, popularly known as Halo, is the world’s largest helicopter in production

This heavy twin-engine transport helicopter is Russian-made and is made for both military and civilian operations

It is designed and developed by the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant

It is available in 13 variants that can lift up to 56 tons and has been used over the years to carry just about anything that can be safely airlifted, such as smaller helicopters

While development began in the early 1970s, designers had bigger plans and a goal to produce a helicopter with a capacity twice the size a modern machine could have

The interior can accommodate 80 combat-equipped troops or six stretchers, but there are rare instances where it flies with 150 troops

The maximum weight, empty, is 62,170 pounds and the top speed is 295 mph, and it has a crew capacity of 4

US Navy CH-53K King Stallion raises a Joint Light Tactical Vehicle

The King Stallion is an upgrade of the CH-53E super stallion, which was previously the largest and heaviest helicopter outside of Russia

Today, the CH-53K King Stallion is the most powerful, largest, and heaviest helicopter in the United States military

It is also designed to meet the needs of the US Marine Corps and will serve as the critical logistical link at sea and on land

This version allows international armies and the US Marine Corps to move troops and equipment from ship to shore and other terrains at higher altitudes more quickly and efficiently

It is built to thrive on the modern battlefield, including dispatch operations

The CH-53K is more intelligent, reliable, survivable and serviceable as it is designed to withstand the most remote and austere operating bases

When it comes to specs, the larger cab can comfortably carry 463l or 37 troops

It can provide supplies, vehicles, soldiers and other materials needed in larger quantities, such as heavy weapons, military vehicles and 55 seated soldiers

Its speed is 172 miles per hour and its empty weight is 88,000 pounds

The CH-53e Super Stallion was one of the heaviest and largest US military helicopters in service until the CH-53K Super Stallion arrived and took over

It forms a critical part of composite squadrons providing heavy cargo and supplies for amphibious assault missions

It is designed with a lifting capacity of more than 33t

Three general electric turboshaft engines, T64-GE-416/416A, power the stallion

Each engine produces a rated power of 3,270 kW, which allows the helicopter to take off with a maximum weight of 73,500 pounds

This helicopter has a maximum weight of 10,740 pounds when empty and a total speed of 190 mph

It can carry two pilots, 38 troops or 24 stretchers

The Stallion has been nicknamed the “Hurricane Maker” for the downwash he generates, and is powerful enough to lift a plane as heavy as himself

Another great product of the Russian Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant is the MI-10, which entered service in 1962

It is a flying crane configuration of the MI-6 that retains much of the equipment and systems such as the rotor, engines and transmission system

This helicopter was operated by the Russian Air Force and other smaller civilian agencies

It is also a two wheel undercarriage to increase the heavy lifting capacity

According to the specifications, the MI-10 has a maximum takeoff weight of 96,340 pounds and can accommodate 28 passengers in the cabin

Harke has two Soloviev D-25V turboshaft engines, each developing a maximum power of 5,500 hp

The maximum empty weight is 54,410 pounds and it has a top speed of 140 mph

The utility helicopter became fully operational in 1962

The upgraded Chinooks are designed to remain operational with the US military after 2060 and for years to come

This heavy duty helicopter can perform multiple transport missions such as transporting troops, war supplies, battlefield equipment and other cargo

It is also efficient in other tasks such as transporting medical equipment, disaster relief, aircraft recovery, dropping parachutes, search and rescue, heavy construction, civil development operations and emergency evacuations

Some of the well-known missions that Chinooks have used in the past include Operations Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and the Gulf War Empty, the CH-47 Chinook weighs 23,400 lbs

and the maximum takeoff weight is 50,000 pounds

This means that the Chinook can lift about 26,600 lbs or about 12065 kg

The Textron Lycoming T55-L712 engines power the Chinook

US Marines Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey airlift a Hummer

Produced as part of a strategic alliance between Boeing and Bell helicopters, the V-22 Osprey is a unique aircraft with multi-transmission capabilities

That means it’s more like a tiltrotor than a real helicopter

However, it is used for the same purpose as helicopters by combining its vertical lift capability with the airspeed of a fixed-wing turboprop aircraft

Compared to other utility helicopters, this aircraft can fly twice as fast

The V-22 is equipped with two powerful Rolls-Royce engines whose nacelle can rotate to convert the aircraft into a turboprop aircraft

The engines each develop a powerful 6-150 horsepower and can be refueled air-to-air

Thanks to the pivoting wings and folding rotors, the Osprey can be stored compactly on board an attack ship or an aircraft carrier

The Navy, Marine Corps, and United States Army use the V-22 Osprey for a variety of missions, such as delivery

It is an interesting aircraft with incredible capabilities, as it can refuel in the air and land on ships and other ships

It is currently one of the largest VTOL aircraft and can carry 24 troops or 19,800 lbs internally and 12,500 lbs externally

The MI-38 was developed as a multirole helicopter by the Mil Moscow Helicopter Plant

That means it can be used for search and rescue missions, transporting passengers and cargo, performing offshore duties and air ambulance services

The flexible and strongly built configuration enables successful operations in hostile and versatile tropical, cold and marine environments

The MI-38 is an upgrade of the MI-17 series, but was originally built as an upgraded version of the MI-8

It’s an all-new design, meaning the developers have put a lot of critical and creative thought into coming up with more contemporary ideas that weren’t included in the previous versions

For example, it has new engines, airframes, avionics and rotor systems

As for the specifications, the MI-38 can carry 32 troops and 16 stretchers

The deck can only carry two pilots, but one pilot can fly the aircraft

It can carry 11,000 pounds internally and 15,000 pounds externally

The MI-38 comes with two powerful Klimov TV7-117V engines

Lift capacity internal: 12,500 lbs / 5,670 kg

The heaviest weight ever lifted – June 12, 1957, Paul Anderson’s Record Backlift

It was on June 12, 1957 when Paul Anderson lifted back 6270 pounds – a well-documented and still unbroken achievement

If you’re not familiar with the backlift, it’s an old lift that was very popular with many of the greatest strongmen,

probably due to being able to lift some really massive pounds – backlifts are usually measured by the ton

Anyway, one of the reasons you don’t see the backlift much these days is that it requires a special setup

(The only modern backlifter I know is Steve Justa who discusses his special backlift setup in Rock Iron Steel) You need a sturdy, thick wooden or metal platform and a lot of weight

At many performances, audience volunteers were accustomed to standing on the platform, as it was a very easy and convenient source of a lot of weight

While the backlift may not be the best lift to work out these days, heavy supports will never go out of style

Try it, but make sure to add weight very slowly, as this type of workout is very demanding on your overall system
